NEWS FROM THE FARM :-)
WHAT'S GROWING AND WHAT'S NOT
January 4th 2012
I just noticed that I was doing this all backwards, always adding the news to
the bottom of the page and no one ever noticed that it was being updated.
So from now on this will be handled blog style and the newest will be on the
top.
Unfortunately there is not much good news for my mini farm. We had a real frost
(yep, right here in Florida) last night and I don't know how many of my little
citrus trees survived, probably won't know for sure for a couple of days.
We did manage to bring the Christmas Cactus and the orchids in last night but
just did not have the energy to do more than pile up the mulch really high on
the little citrus trees.
Oh, and remember my raised vegetable bed, it seems the wood was not as
weatherproof as advertized, the boards just plain rotted away. So Allen will
have to rebuild the entire thing come Spring time.

The tomatoes are just fine but my new little citrus trees are plagued by all
sorts of bugs.
Have dill will season, oh yea do I ever have dill, it is going crazy wanting
to reach the sky. Parsley is doing well but not spreading as wildly as the dill.
Jan. 3rd 2010
It suddenly got a bit cold in Florida and I tried covering the vegetable bed.
Well, as usual I started, ran out of air and Allen had to do the work. He did a
super job though, the vegetable bed looks like an old covered wagon. Check the

what an appropriate date for this latest news from the Farm. Nearly nothing
survived with the exception of the parsley and the dill. It was the hardest freeze
we have had in a long time and my little trees just weren't strong enough to
handle it yet. Total loss of all the citrus trees we planted last year with the
possible exception of the Mandarin, it looks like it might have a chance to
recover. We thought at least the completely covered plants in the raised bed
would have a chance but even that cover did not help much. On the light side,
we do have two blood orange trees ready to be planted, they have been living in
the dining room through all of this.

Wow, it really has been over a year since I worked on this site. Updating this
will take me a while.

WHAT'S NEW IN THE HOUSE
Larry the carpenter built a brand new pantry, it's a joy to behold. I don't have
to stand on my little ladder any more to reach the back of the shelves. It is
just a giant cabinet with lots of very large pull our trays. Works absolutely
wonderful and holds enough staples to weather a hurricane.

WHAT'S NEW IN THE SHOP
I will have to let Allen fill out this part of the report, I only visit the shop
to call him for lunch :-)
